There are a few reasons why, in these modern times, you might benefit from having a landline in your house:
Our phone numbers are in the 914 area code, in the 768 exchange, so your phone number will look something like (914) 768-6789.
Yes, but incoming calls are limited to either other cooperative members, or else numbers that you have previously called from your landline. This is in order to avoid telemarketers and the like. So if you want someone to be able to call you, you need to call them first one time, unless they are already a member of the cooperative. After you call them once, they'll be able to call you thereafter.
You can call anyone you like within the contiguous United States, so excluding friends in Alaska and Hawaii. Aside from that, whether they are part of the cooperative or not, whether they have a landline or cellular telephone, you can call them.
Once you sign up, you will receive your very own telephone number, and an adapter. You'll plug any old telephone into the adapter, and plug the adapter into your existing Internet router. With that done the phone then works like a normal telephone.
Any old phone will do. Like for example, the kind that you used to plug into the wall in the 80's and 90's, with a mechanical ringer.
No, you can set it up yourself. You will receive an adapter. Plug the adapter into your home Internet router, and plug your phone into the adapter. Then start making calls!
It's a pay-what-you-like model. We recommend an annual payment of $50. But if you want to do less, or more that's fine too.
Yes, this program is for residents of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. We may expand to other localities in the Hudson Valley, so let us know if you are interested and live in a nearby town.
It will pretty much work, but it runs over your home Internet connection, so if that is out, then the phone will not work. That means during power outages, or during other types of disruptions, the phone may not be in service. If you need more reliability than that, then this is not for you.
This is a best-effort operation, run by volunteers. As a result, you may get brilliant support, or maybe none at all if you are unlucky, or more likely something in between.
Yes, you should be able to dial 911, and it will route to your local dispatch. They will see the home address you specified when you signed up. However, since this is runs over the Internet, if your Internet connection is out of order for any reason, then so too will be this phone service. If you require a higher degree of reliability, then please use a different provider.
You can take your equipment with you, and it should work all the same, just fine at your new location. Please be in touch to update your address on file so that emergency dispatch will see the correct information, should they receive a call from you.
